A collaboration with poet Miriam Sagan, incorporating her one-line haikus written in Wendover, Utah on the edge of the salt flats, during an artist-in-residency with the Center for Land Use Interpretation. I also traveled to that desolate place to take the photographs that appear on the birds' backs with Miriam's poetry. The salt flats are next to the abandoned Wendover Airforce Base, and one can still see the hangar that the Enola Gay left from to drop atomic bombs on Japan at the end of WWII.
This installation and exhibit took place at 516Arts in Albuquerque, NM in 2013, with the birds ensconced amid salt (from the flats) and rusty iron (the deserted air force base).
